Our Story

The Wairarapa Eco Farm was born out of a desire to produce quality food with ecological integrity. Our farm is situated on the Tauherenikau Plains in South Wairarapa. We bought an empty patch of land in 1996 and with our strong ecological principles, we planted windbreaks and olive trees, built up the soil, and designed and built our alternative green home. The farm has grown from bare paddocks into a secluded oasis amidst a grass desert and possesses the vitality we had dreamt of. Over the past 20 years we created our very own micro climate which has given us the opportunity to grow a wider variety of crops for another project in the making: our own Community Supported Agriculture programme.

Volunteer with Us

Work with us in exchange for a vegetable share or stay on farm and get food and accomodation. Learn by doing in both the garden and packing shed.

We prefer regular hours or longer stays as this is easier for us to plan around and better for your understanding of the dynamics on the farm.Β Contact us for more information.Β

Join a Farm Day

Sign up for a farm tour followed by a few hours helping in the Garden or with general farm maintenance. Dates will be announced closer to the time and are weather dependent.Β

  • Seasonal Eating

"I really enjoy the diversity of my csa share. It's made me realise that I've bought week after week the same choices from the supermarket, regardless of growing seasons."

  • Health

"We have just received our second fruit and vege box. I just wanted to say it has been an absolute thrill to finally be able to provide truly healthy fruit and veges to our children. We have previously tried to buy commercially grown organic produce. The difference between your biodynamic produce and the organic produce is like night and day. The flavor of your fruit and eyes are incredible. We are just so pleased that you are able to supply us with such quality produce."
